Las Vegas Wedding

At any wedding, there are two centerpieces: The bride and the wedding cake. Wedding guests wait anxiously for the bride to appear so they can admire her dress, her hair, her radiant face. But as soon as the ceremony is over, their thoughts turn to cake. They anxiously search the reception facility for the cake, so they can admire its design, its size and wonder about its taste.

It might not seem fair, but there it is. Often the cake garners as much attention as the bride. So it makes sense to spend some energy – and money -- having just the right cake made for your wedding.

If you’re getting married in Las Vegas, wedding cake options are plentiful and varied. Since Las Vegas truly is the wedding capital of the world, it makes perfect sense that there would be extensive choices in wedding cakes. From the sublimely elegant to the cheesy and fun, there’s a cake for everyone and every type of wedding.

Before choosing a cake, think about the kind of wedding you’re planning. Are you having a traditional, more formal wedding? Is this a casual garden-type affair? Will you hotfoot it to the strip and have a quickie wedding at Elvis’ wedding chapel before having a small dinner with friends? In each of these cases, different cakes are appropriate. A traditional wedding cake features two to four layers, often some real or frosting flowers, and some simple design on the cake. For a garden wedding, there might be more of a floral motif and perhaps a cake that’s in several pieces, rather than one tall tier. If you’re doing the small chapel wedding with a simple dinner following, a single-layer cake might be appropriate.

Thanks to the popularity of the wedding ceremony in Las Vegas, there are literally thousands of choices in wedding cakes. If you purchase a wedding package from a chapel, often a cake is included, but if you want to have some control over its design and look, as well as its taste, you might want to purchase your own cake. Many brides do in Las Vegas, even when they’ve purchased a package that includes a cake.

So, as you begin your Las Vegas cake search, ask your baker a few questions. Where in Las Vegas will they deliver? What is the charge for delivery? Can you have a tasting before ordering a cake? Are they open to custom designs specific to your needs?

Once you have an idea of what type of cake is appropriate for your wedding, and what kind of baker might provide the best cake for you, there are many options for specific cakes.

Traditional – In this realm there are plenty of options. These days, many brides choose a fondant cake (which provides a smooth, clean surface for decoration) and have their traditional cake decorated with frosting flowers dropping from the top to the bottom and decorating the sides. Most traditional wedding cakes will be white, but with some light colors in the flowers, usually in the colors of the wedding.

Custom – To some degree, any wedding cake is a custom cake, but most bakers should allow you go bring in a picture of a wedding cake from a magazine and replicate it for you. In addition, while most bakers will provide a list to choose from for cake and fillings, you should also be able to make special requests for filling and frosting flavors.

Theme – This is Las Vegas, so bakers here up the ante on theme cakes. You can have the Elvis cake, of course, but you can choose from just about any other theme as well. From Hawaii but came to Las Vegas to get married? You can get a tropical cake to fit your theme. You can get a wedding cake made to look like dice, a castle or a fortune cookie. It’s all here.
